Guinness Nigeria has awarded scholarships to several outstanding students across various universities in the country, as part of its commitments to empowering youths through education.
The annual scholarship award, which is in its fifth year, is aimed at rewarding University students who have performed exceptionally well in their various courses of study and to encourage them continue to excel.
According to the company’s Managing Director, Seni Adetu, “doing this is a testament to our belief in Nigeria; we are investing in growing the future of Nigeria, irrespective of what is happening around. We take the subject of corporate social responsibility very seriously which is why we always ensure that we make an effort to enrich the lives of the people in the communities in which we operate.
“The reason for the scholarship programme underscores the unwavering commitment of Guinness Nigeria Plc to the education of our youth because of the incontrovertible role they play in economic development. We are therefore, very proud that the company will be granting scholarships to undergraduates in different courses of study from our host communities in Benin, Aba and Lagos throughout the duration of their courses.”
He explained that the beneficiaries, who were selected from a pool of applicants that responded to the newspaper advertisement, went through rigorous screening process supervised by the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), adding that the scholarship programme, which will cover the entire cost of tuition, textbooks as well as some part of lliving expenses, will afford the students the liberty of remaining fully focused on their studies without any encumbrances.
Adetu advised the beneficiaries to make the best use of the scholarship awarded them by Guinness for the successful launching of their careers, while also enjoining both parents and children to share the good deeds of Guinness in demonstrating their commitment to their environment.
Speaking on behalf of the parents of one of the beneficiaries, Raphael Innocent expressed profound gratitude to Guinness for the kind gesture.
“I want to thank Guinness Nigeria for believing in our children as well as relieving us, their parents, of the burden of providing for the educational needs of our children. Thank you Guinness for living up to your words and promises,” he said.
